Stan bought WAYS in 1965 for $550,000 and sold it in 1986 for $13 million. Stan was such a legend, more than a dozen stations went silent for :60 seconds when he was buried in 2001 at age 76. Stan and his wife Sis were quite a team making WAYS solid #1 in the market. They believed in solid talent to win, jocks like Jay Thomas, Jack Armstrong, Tom Kinard, Long John Silver, Dick Blanchard, Morton Downey Jr, Jack Gale, John Kilgo, Jack Pride and others. They loved to promote out of the box and took incredible care of talent that were team players. Stan would say, "Ever see a team win that hated each other with a manager that was negative?" The reverse formula made WAYS grab the largest audience of any Top 40 station their size in the nation.
My name is Tammie Holland-Hedrick..
My parents,Gene and Carolyn Holland were great friends with Sis and Stan!!
I had many great times at the station as a kid during the late 70's to the early 80's!!
Sis and Stan would let me go into the booth with the talent and I got to learn all about Radio!!
I eventually married and had two beautiful sons with , so sadly now the late, Nathan Richie who worked at 99.7 The Fox and EZ 104.7 Radio!!
Sis and Stan had the most beautiful dogs and I loved to play with them!!
Those are wonderful memories with wonderful people!!
